Nigerian singer Mr. Eazi is confident he could soon become a billionaire in US dollars. But he says financial success is not his main focus.

He shared this during an interview with Ras Kwame of Capital XTRA. PUNCH Online monitored the interview on Thursday. The host asked if Mr. Eazi thought he was on track to be Afrobeats’ first billionaire.

Mr. Eazi replied that his answer would depend on the currency. “Depends on what currency you’re talking about,” he said.

When the interviewer clarified that he meant Nigerian naira, he suggested that Mr. Eazi had already reached billionaire status in naira. Mr. Eazi confirmed, saying, “Billionaire.”

When asked if he was also on his way to becoming a billionaire in US dollars, Mr. Eazi showed hope that this could happen soon. “US dollars, you know, will come soon,” he stated.

But he also said that becoming a billionaire is not his main goal. He feels grateful for his life and the freedom to make music. “I’m not really looking for that; that’s not the target,” he said. He added that this financial milestone could happen “anytime now.”

The singer talked about how important creative freedom is to him. He values the ability to make and release music on his own terms. “Freedom is very big to me. Freedom musically, freedom to be able to put out music freely,” he said.

The interview also covered his business ventures. He mentioned he has a stake in a UK ticketing company, which the interviewer brought up.

When asked if he could be seen as Africa’s Jay-Z, Mr. Eazi seemed okay with the comparison. “You have Africa’s Jay-Z, you know, you could do that,” he said.

He also joked about his relationship with his wife, Temi Otedola, comparing it to Jay-Z’s marriage to Beyoncé. “Jay-Z is Jay-Z. I’m Mr. Eazi. Mr. Eazi has Beyoncé, I have Temi,” he added.

Mr. Eazi, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, is known for both his music and his business interests. His comments have sparked discussions about wealth creation, entrepreneurship, and the rising influence of Afrobeats artists.

While he believes becoming a US dollar billionaire could be possible, he stresses that creative freedom is one of his top priorities.
