MultiChoice Nigeria has unveiled new DStv and GOtv subscription packages. The company promises more content, flexibility, and better value for subscribers starting from 5 November 2026.

Kemi Omotosho, the Chief Executive Officer, announced the changes during a media briefing at the company's Victoria Island office in Lagos on Tuesday.

The new DStv packages include Starter, Select, Sports, and Premium. For GOtv subscribers, the options are Easy, Starter, Select, and Sports.

This revamp is part of the DStv Expect More campaign. It aims to simplify offerings, enhance customer experience, and respond to changing viewing habits.

The new DStv structure sets Starter at ₦6,000 monthly, Select at ₦11,000, Sports at ₦21,000, and Premium at ₦44,500.

Ms Omotosho mentioned that the company realized it needed to rethink its strategy after a long period without new product launches. "The fact on the table is we haven’t launched new products in a long time," she noted. "What we’re here to tell you is that we’re overhauling the entire strategy of the business."

She pointed out that simplicity, better value, and customer choice are the main principles guiding these changes. "We’re solving for simplicity. We think we have too many packs today. We’re solving for better value for money for our customers, and we’re giving our customers choice," she explained.

The new structure allows subscribers to start with a basic package and upgrade as their entertainment needs change. "We’re giving you more choice: four simple packs from entry pack to the very best of sports and premium. More flexibility: you can choose which pack you want, right? And the higher you go, the more content you get," she added.

Automatic Migration for Current Subscribers

Ms Omotosho stated that existing subscribers with active subscriptions would automatically transition to the new packages starting 5 November, at no extra cost. DStv Access subscribers will move to Starter, Family subscribers to Select, Compact to Sports, and Compact Plus to Premium.

She said the migration ensures that customers will receive at least the same content they had before, with some getting even more. Subscribers who have paid for several months in advance will keep their package for the remaining subscription period.

"What we will say is that you will not get less than what you paid for. So, at the minimum, you get what you paid for," Ms Omotosho said. She added that the company is looking into offering extra content to customers who have prepaid, but no final decision has been made.

Ms Omotosho emphasized that the new approach focuses on customer satisfaction and retention, which she believes is key for the company’s long-term success. "We want to start by putting the customers at the heart of our business. We’ve done that in the past, but maybe not enough. And now we’re going even deeper on that," she said.

New Sports and Entertainment Channels

Tope Oshunkeye, MultiChoice Nigeria's Senior Vice President of Communications, mentioned that the revamped packages will include new and refreshed channels for football, movies, local productions, and international entertainment.

The new SuperSport KICKOFF channel will show selected football matches, like the Premier League Match of the Week and some UEFA Champions League matches. This will make live football available at lower subscription levels.

Priced at ₦21,000 monthly, the Sports package will include all Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches, plus other sports content and general entertainment from Select. "This package is for football fans who want broader access to major competitions without subscribing to Premium," Mr Oshunkeye said.

The Premium package will offer a larger selection of sports, including Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis, and golf, along with international entertainment. For movies, M-Net Movies+ will merge the previous M-Net Movies 1 and 2 channels. M-Net Stars will showcase Hollywood films and familiar stars.

Africa Magic Family will now be called Africa Magic+, featuring a wider range of African stories, local shows, children's content, and more entertainment. Mr Oshunkeye said these changes are to make the packages more appealing to different types of viewers.

"It’s all about value, and that’s exactly what this new era is about, with reintroducing Expect More, Expect More. That’s the new value that comes with it," he said. Subscribers will also be able to access DStv through satellite TV or compatible devices, reflecting the company’s push for more flexible viewing options.

Future Plans for Streaming

When asked about the future of Showmax after its shutdown, Ms Omotosho said MultiChoice is looking into the technology needed for a new streaming service. She stated the company does not want to leave the streaming space empty but wants to offer a service that provides a good experience.

"We cannot leave that space empty. We need to put a product there, but it has to be the right product with a good customer experience that is better than Showmax," she explained. The company is reviewing available technologies to find the best platform, focusing on features like box sets and personalized recommendations.

She did not provide a timeline for the launch. "I don’t just want to say it’s coming soon, say we’re launching in two months, or next month, or next week. Allow us to do that audit, to choose what is the best technology for us to use, and then we’ll come back to the product," she said.

Ms Omotosho noted that some Showmax content has moved to DStv Stream, but the two platforms work differently, which limits direct content transfers. She also recognized the demand for a pay-as-you-watch model, which would allow customers to pay based on their actual viewing time.

She said the company has considered this idea, but implementing it will involve significant challenges. "It’s something that we know customers have asked for. We have put it on the runway, but there’s a lot we need to do," she added. Ms Omotosho did not promise an immediate launch of this model, as the company needs to ensure it can operate sustainably.

Expanding Content Across Markets

Ms Omotosho said MultiChoice will use its connection with the global Canal+ Group to broaden the content available to subscribers by sharing titles across African and international libraries. This strategy will help introduce more programs while managing costs and time for producing original content.

The company is considering bringing programs from other African countries to Nigerian viewers while distributing Nigerian productions to audiences abroad. She gave the example of Big Brother Naija being shown in other African nations as part of this cross-market strategy. They are also looking into dubbing some programs into local languages for better accessibility.

However, she acknowledged that creating new content in multiple markets is costly and requires a sustainable business model. "We’re trying to put a stopgap. So we’re leveraging the library that exists within the Canal+ world," she said.

She added that the company will keep exploring new formats and content offerings while addressing subscriber concerns about repeated programming. This package revamp comes as MultiChoice aims to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s pay-TV market amid changing viewer habits and competition from streaming services. The new offerings mark the first phase of a strategy to enhance customer experience, simplify subscription options, and encourage subscribers to remain with the company.
