The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has found an illegal herbal product factory in Agege, Lagos State.

The agency shared this news in a statement on its verified X account on Wednesday.

The discovery came after The Guardian reported on herbal products with fake NAFDAC registration numbers.

NAFDAC said its investigation team watched the site and found three types of Asheitu Adams Bitters with NAFDAC Registration Number A7-1827L.

They confirmed, "Verification through NAFDAC’s NAPAMS portal showed that this registration number belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup, proving it was used fraudulently on these herbal products."

The agency noted, "The company’s managing director/chief executive officer was not at the site during the operation, but the company manager was arrested for questioning."

NAFDAC is asking the public to report any suspected illegal manufacturing activities. You can reach them through their call centres at 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322, or by emailing [email protected].

This operation happened less than a week after NAFDAC found a suspected fake drinks factory at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

NAFDAC mentioned that two suspects were arrested for making and repackaging fake alcoholic and energy drinks.

The agency said this operation revealed dirty production places where suspects supposedly relabelled empty bottles of expensive wines with fake labels and filled them with bad alcoholic drinks.
