NANS Links Student Welfare to Tinubu's Policies

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has connected recent changes in education and student welfare to President Bola Tinubu’s policies. They encouraged students to think about these changes as the 2027 general election approaches.

NANS President, Akinteye Afeez, spoke during a meeting with the APC Youth Network West Africa in Lagos on Friday. He pointed out key developments like the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), better electricity on some university campuses, and fewer long strikes as things that could help students in their studies.

Akinteye noted that Nigerian students are watching government policies and how they impact their education and welfare, regardless of their political views.

"Students are not necessarily defined by membership of political parties," Akinteye said.

He added that students care about issues that affect their academic and social lives. "Students are observing developments within the country and the impact of government policies on their education and welfare," he stated.

The NANS president promised to share what was discussed in the meeting with students nationwide. He wants to keep them updated on matters that concern them.

He also showed support for Tinubu’s government and mentioned plans to rally students to back the President for the 2027 election. The target is to gather 10 million votes.

The meeting also talked about student welfare, educational growth, youth involvement, and ongoing projects by students. They looked into ways student leaders could work with the APC Youth Network West Africa.

Akinteye called for better teamwork between student leaders and youth groups. He said such partnerships are needed to tackle issues facing young Nigerians.

"There is a need for stronger relationships among student leaders and youth stakeholders," he said.

Olatunde Gideon Igbasan, the Director-General of the APC Youth Network West Africa, was represented by Olumayowa Jose, the Alaaye of Dome-Kwabenya, Accra, Ghana. Other members from the network’s ICT, Media, and Publicity and Welfare Directorates were also present.

The APC Youth Network welcomed the NANS team and praised the student leaders for starting this conversation.

This meeting allowed both groups to look for ways to work together to improve student welfare, boost leadership development, and encourage youth participation in national issues.

The engagement aims to open up more channels for communication and cooperation between NANS and the APC Youth Network West Africa on matters affecting Nigerian students and young people.
