Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, is supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Oluwole Oluyede. She called him a capable leader who cares about people and can bring development and good governance to the state.
Akpoti-Uduaghan made this endorsement at the final campaign event for the PDP in Ado-Ekiti, just before the governorship election on June 20.
A statement from her media aide, Mike Idoko, said the senator spent several days visiting communities in Ekiti to gather support for Oluyede.
While speaking to party supporters and the Ebira community at the event, Akpoti-Uduaghan said Oluyede has the experience and vision to handle the issues facing the state and improve the lives of its people.
She said, “Dr. Oluwole Oluyede is a leader who understands the needs of the people. He is not disconnected from the grassroots. He has listened to the cries of market women, youths, civil servants and community leaders across the state.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan pointed out that the PDP candidate cares for ordinary people and has the qualities needed for good governance.
She also described Oluyede as someone who can bring people together across different backgrounds while ensuring everyone has a fair shot at opportunities.
“One of the reasons I am strongly supporting Dr Oluyede is his commitment to building an inclusive government where every group and community has a sense of belonging. Leadership should be about service, fairness and equal opportunities for all,” she said.
With the election just days away, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed trust in Ekiti voters to make smart choices. She mentioned that the people are aware and ready to judge the qualifications of those wanting to lead.
“Ekiti people are proudly educated and politically enlightened. I believe they know who truly has the capacity, compassion and experience to govern the state effectively. This election is about choosing progress, inclusion and a better future for the state,” she said.
The Kogi Central senator also shared her efforts to connect with the grassroots. She visited places like Ikole-Ekiti, Ilasa, and other areas with many Ebira residents, encouraging them to be active in the election.
“We have moved from settlement to settlement speaking to our people. We are encouraging them to support a candidate who will prioritize development, inclusion, peace and prosperity for all. Every vote will count on June 20, and every citizen must play a role in shaping the future of Ekiti State,” she added.
Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed that Oluyede’s ability to connect with the grassroots and his plans for development set him apart from other candidates.
She urged all eligible voters to come out and support the PDP candidate on election day.
“Dr. Oluyede is a tested and trusted leader with the interest of the people at heart. I urge all eligible voters to come out peacefully, exercise their democratic rights and support a leader who is prepared to serve with dedication, competence and integrity,” she said.
The June 20 governorship election is expected to be competitive, with political parties ramping up their campaigns to win over voters.
The final PDP campaign event saw many party leaders, stakeholders, youth groups, women organizations, and supporters from all over Ekiti State who were hopeful about the party's chances in the upcoming election.
