The Nigeria Democratic Congress has rejected a list of supposed candidates for elections in Imo, Abia, and Anambra states that is currently making the rounds on social media. The party called the list fake and unauthorized.

On Friday, the National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, released a statement urging party members and the public to ignore the lists. He made it clear that these lists did not come from the party’s national headquarters.

The NDC confirmed that it had already sent the real list of candidates who will represent the party in the affected states to the Independent National Electoral Commission. This was done following the rules set by the Electoral Act.

“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates from the aforementioned states. The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement said in part.

Enekweizu accused “mischief makers” of spreading the false documents to create confusion and distract the party from its work.

He noted that the NDC is already looking into who is behind the fake lists and how the information got out.

“Such lists in circulation are being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well. However, the party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party,” he added.

The party also reassured its members that it is dedicated to keeping unity within the party and achieving its goal of offering a different political choice for Nigerians.
