Ndidi likely to stay at Besiktas for new season

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi looks set to stay at Besiktas for the new season. This comes after weeks of rumors about him leaving the Turkish club, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The 29-year-old midfielder joined Besiktas last year after spending nine years at Leicester City. He quickly became an important player, making 31 appearances in total. This includes 25 matches in the Super Lig. He also wore the captain's armband several times.

The recent change in coaches raised questions about his future. Coach Sergen Yalcin left, and Vincenzo Italiano took over. Some reports said this coaching change might open the door for Ndidi to leave this summer.

But according to Footy-Africa, Ndidi is now expected to stay at Besiktas until at least the 2026/27 season. A source close to Ndidi confirmed that he does not plan to push for a transfer from the club.

Al Ittihad from the Saudi Pro League had shown strong interest in Ndidi. They wanted him after missing out on another Nigerian midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, who moved to Eintracht Frankfurt. Al Ittihad is looking for a replacement for veteran Brazilian player Fabinho.

Manchester United was also linked with Ndidi as a possible replacement for Casemiro. But their interest has reportedly decreased in recent weeks. Newly promoted Al Diriyah also looked into signing him as they prepare for their first season in the Saudi Pro League.

Despite all this interest, Ndidi prefers to stay in Turkey. But the final decision about his future is with Besiktas. The Super Eagles captain is expected to play when the club starts their new Super Lig season against Eyupspor on Sunday.
