The Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has destroyed 662 drug spots, arrested 1,107 suspects, and seized 12,724.652 kilograms of illegal drugs and psychotropic substances from June 2025 to June 2026.
The State Commander of the NDLEA in Kaduna, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, shared this on Monday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna.
Muhammad said the seizures show the command’s ongoing effort to disrupt drug supply networks and stop harmful substances from reaching communities.
He mentioned that the seized drugs included 9,091.974kg of cannabis sativa, 0.004kg of heroin, 0.315kg of cocaine, 2.949kg of methamphetamine, 301.852kg of tramadol, and 3,345.558kg of psychotropic substances.
The commander also noted that the command improved its intelligence-led operations, surveillance, and enforcement activities across the state. This led to the arrest of 1,107 suspects for different drug-related crimes.
“The breakdown shows that 1,075 of the suspects were male, while 32 were female,” he said.
Muhammad added that 297 suspects were taken to court during this time, with 251 convictions achieved through cooperation with the judiciary.
He stressed that these convictions show the agency’s commitment to making sure offenders face justice and act as a deterrent to drug trafficking.
On reducing drug demand and rehabilitation efforts, Muhammad revealed that the command admitted 94 clients into treatment and rehabilitation programs, consisting of 88 males and six females.
He also said that 78 individuals were successfully rehabilitated, while 1,458 people received brief interventions, including 1,413 males and 45 females.
According to him, anti-drug awareness campaigns reached thousands of students, youths, workers, community leaders, and faith-based organizations across Kaduna State.
Muhammad shared that the command dismantled 662 drug spots during the review period using intelligence gathering, community support, and ongoing enforcement actions.
He pointed out that this effort significantly disrupted local drug distribution networks and improved public safety in the affected communities.
The commander noted that the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse campaign continues to achieve success through partnerships with schools, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and youth and women’s groups.
He emphasized that prevention is the most effective and sustainable way to reduce substance abuse and its effects.
Muhammad thanked the Kaduna State Government and other stakeholders for backing anti-drug initiatives and strengthening security efforts in the state.
He also recognized the support of traditional and religious institutions, rehabilitation centers, civil society organizations, and other security agencies.
The commander urged parents, schools, community leaders, the media, and youths to keep working together to prevent drug abuse and support rehabilitation.
“The fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a collective responsibility. Government agencies alone cannot win this battle,” he said.
Muhammad reaffirmed the Kaduna State Command’s commitment to protecting communities from drug abuse and illicit trafficking through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, enforcement, and strategic partnerships.
