Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) has started building a 257-unit affordable housing estate for police officers and their families in Masaka, Nasarawa State. This is a partnership with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF). The groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of the project.
This housing project is part of FHFL’s efforts to tackle Nigeria’s housing shortage. They aim to create affordable homes for low- and middle-income earners, especially for key groups like police officers. This partnership shows FHFL and NPTF’s commitment to improving the living conditions of police personnel by providing them with affordable housing options.
At the ceremony, Mr. Abdul-Mutallab Mukhtar, the Managing Director and CEO of FHFL, spoke about the importance of housing for those who serve the public. He said, "The men and women of the Nigeria Police Force dedicate their lives to protecting ours, often at great personal risk. As they keep our communities safe, they deserve the reassurance that their own families have a safe and decent place to call home. This project is an important step towards making that possible, and we look forward to delivering quality, affordable homes to the officers who will benefit from it."
The estate will feature two- and three-bedroom homes. Construction is expected to finish within nine months.
This project combines public and private support to improve housing delivery and create job opportunities. FHFL is managing the construction. NPTF will handle infrastructure for the estate, while Bricks International Concepts Limited will build the homes. FAM Property Development and Investment Limited will manage infrastructure work.
Alhaji Mohammed F. Sheidu, the Executive Secretary of NPTF, talked about the project’s goals. He said, "At the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, we recognise that effective policing requires more than operational equipment and training. It also requires a motivated workforce whose welfare needs are adequately addressed. Access to decent and affordable housing remains an important part of that responsibility. Through our partnership with Family Homes Funds Limited, we are working to make homeownership more accessible to police officers and their families, and we look forward to extending this initiative to other locations across the country."
The project aims to help with housing delivery and affordable financing. FHFL will partner with primary mortgage lenders to offer police officers mortgage options. This will help them pay for their homes over time and eventually own them fully.
Besides the Masaka estate, FHFL and NPTF are launching a larger program to provide housing for police officers across Nigeria. In Phase 1, they plan to build homes in Ogun and Kaduna, with more locations planned across the country.
The Masaka housing project highlights FHFL’s strategy to solve the housing shortage by forming partnerships and creating financial plans. By aligning support from institutions with private delivery and mortgage financing, the initiative aims to turn housing investments into real homeownership.
The ceremony had attendees from important government bodies and development partners. The Inspector-General of Police was represented by ACP Tunde Kabir Usama, Area Commander, Karu Division. Representatives from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and Imperial Homes Mortgage Bank were also present.
As construction kicks off, FHFL and its partners are focused on delivering the estate with quality, affordability, and timely completion in mind.
