The Obidient Movement has appointed Moses Paul as its new national coordinator.
The movement announced this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. Onyeka Dike from the media and communications team shared the news.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Paul’s appointment comes after Yunusa Tanko was reassigned as special adviser to Peter Obi for Northern Nigeria.
Mr Tanko, who was national coordinator for three years, thanked the leadership, members, and supporters for their help during his time in office.
He pointed out that strengthening the movement’s structure and framework was a key focus during his time as coordinator.
Mr Tanko mentioned that the Obidient Movement set up a National Advisory Council. This council aims to improve strategic engagement and move from election-focused activism to a lasting institution.
He also talked about establishing offices in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. This includes five regional coordinators and a regional collegiate council.
Mr Tanko noted that grassroots structures were built across 37 state coordination areas and 774 local government areas. This was to boost the movement's presence and mobilization across Nigeria.
The movement also created an online platform for recruitment and mobilization at www.obidients.com. This system is linked to INEC’s Results Viewing Portal for monitoring election results.
He added that the movement worked to engage communities, stakeholders, and support groups nationwide to broaden its reach.
The statement said that Obidient Movement leaders praised Mr Tanko for his contributions to the organization’s growth, coordination, and expansion during his three years.
It noted that Mr Tanko’s new job as special adviser to Peter Obi on Northern Nigeria involves leading mobilization and engagement efforts in that area.
Mr Paul, who takes over from Mr Tanko as national coordinator, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. He promised to build on the existing work.
He described the Obidient Movement as a citizens’ movement, not just focused on individuals. He asked for the prayers, support, and cooperation of all members and supporters.
“With grace, humility, courage, and determination, I accept the appointment to serve as National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement.
“Dr Tanko’s shoes are quite big, and I will need your prayers and support to move the movement forward,” he stated.
NAN reports that Mr Paul was the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship in the 21 February FCT area council election.
