Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has named Abubakar Kuso as the chairman of the management committee for Niger Tornadoes F.C., a team in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The announcement was made on Saturday. It takes effect right away, according to a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim.

Bago, who is often called the "Farmer Governor," believes Kuso can help improve the Minna-based club. He described Kuso's leadership style as competent and proactive.

The governor is hopeful that the new chairman will use his experience to bring the club back to its "glory days." He also asked the club’s management team to back Kuso and work together for the team's success.

Kuso takes over from Ibrahim Dada, who resigned to run for the Bosso/Paikoro Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

Aside from his role in football, Kuso is the Executive Director of Planning and Design at the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority. He is in charge of planning and designing development projects in Niger, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory.

This appointment comes as Niger Tornadoes aim to strengthen their management and improve their standing in Nigerian football.

Last season, Niger Tornadoes finished 14th in the Nigeria Premier Football League. The team hopes to perform better in the upcoming 2026/27 season.
