Nigeria Volleyball Boss Sees Bright Future for Young Players

Nigeria Volleyball Federation president Musa Nimrod thinks the country’s young players can “conquer Africa.” This comes after the women’s team placed ninth at the 2026 African Senior Women’s Volleyball Nations Championship in Kenya, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

“I’m pleased with the young girls because, as I have always said, they have great potential,” Nimrod said after Nigeria wrapped up their campaign with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-14) win over Mali in their last classification match at the Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.

“It shows that Nigeria is ready to conquer Africa in volleyball. I have seen the potential in these young players, and I’m delighted that they were able to win their match while I was here.”

Nigeria, who are the CAVB Zone 3 champions, ended up fourth in their group. They beat Ghana but lost to Cameroon and Tunisia before facing a Round of 16 defeat to hosts and defending champions Kenya.

They bounced back in the classification matches, defeating Senegal, DR Congo, and Mali to finish ninth overall.

Nimrod also expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s ambassador and embassy officials in Kenya. He thanked the Kenyan people for their support during the championship.

Looking ahead to Nigeria’s beach volleyball players, Nimrod called on them to ramp up their preparations after the country’s historic Olympic qualification.

“It’s not going to be easy. Let the young beach volleyball players be ready for the big work ahead. There is a lot of work ahead, but we thank God,” he said. He added that qualifying for the Olympics should not be seen as the final goal and that athletes must prepare well for the Games.
