Nigerian woman missing in Doha found safe

The 37-year-old Nigerian woman, Saratu Jibo Yusuf, who went missing after arriving in Doha, Qatar, has been found safe.

Her brother, Jonathan Jibo, confirmed this to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday. He said the family was worried after they lost contact with her.

"My sister has been found today. She was sick and was taken to the hospital from the airport," Mr Jibo said.

Mr Jibo thanked Nigerians who helped raise awareness about his sister's situation. He also appreciated the Nigerian Embassy in Doha, Qatar Airways, and Michael Achimugu, who is the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that Ms Yusuf flew from Lagos to Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR1408 on 1 September.

Her family became concerned when she stopped responding shortly after landing in Doha.

Mr Jibo told PREMIUM TIMES that his sister's last message was on WhatsApp while using the aircraft's Wi-Fi.

A family friend who waited for her at the airport could not find her either.

The family contacted the airline and airport officials, who said Ms Yusuf had collected her luggage and left the terminal.

Mr Achimugu also announced Ms Yusuf's safe return on X, saying he spoke with her directly to confirm she was okay.

He explained that her mobile phone and international passport were held by Customs while they cleared up some issues.

"She was unable to reach anyone while the process was ongoing," he said.

Mr Achimugu said Ms Yusuf was cleared and released. She has her belongings back now.

He added that she contacted her family and reassured them that she was safe.

The NCAA official also mentioned a Nigerian named Yusuf Adesoga, who helped find Ms Yusuf.

According to Mr Achimugu, Mr Adesoga visited security agencies in Doha and finally tracked Ms Yusuf to where she was located.

Mr Achimugu also praised Ms Yusuf’s brother for raising the alarm when she went missing.
