Four Nigerian wrestlers have landed in Mongolia for the 2026 World Wrestling 3rd Ranking Series. The Nigeria Wrestling Federation is working hard to boost the country's presence in international wrestling.
The team includes Genesis Mercy Miesinnei (50kg), Ogunsanya Christianah Tolulope (53kg), Kolawole Esther Omolayo (62kg), and Ojo Damola Hannah (76kg). They left Nigeria on Monday night on a Turkish Airlines flight.
Women’s wrestling coach and NWF Technical Committee Chairman Akuh Purity is leading the group. He thanked NWF President Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for taking care of all the logistics and arrangements for the team.
“I want to, on behalf of the athletes and the entire wrestling community, express our profound appreciation to the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation for his unwavering support, dedication, and commitment to the welfare of Nigerian wrestlers,” Purity said.
“His contribution continues to create opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level and showcase Nigeria’s talent on the global stage.”
Purity mentioned that the team’s main goal in Mongolia is to earn ranking points. This will help the wrestlers improve their world standings and secure top seedings for the upcoming World Championships.
