The Nigeria national football team’s 2018 World Cup away jersey has made it to the list of the most iconic jerseys in FIFA World Cup history. This ranking comes from a BBC Sport report released on Monday.

The kit was worn by the Super Eagles during the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. It quickly became one of the most talked-about designs of that tournament.

Made by Nike, the jersey caught a lot of eyes due to its striking green-and-white geometric pattern, which was inspired by Nigeria’s football heritage from 1994.

BBC Sport listed the top 10 iconic World Cup kits since the tournament started. Here are the highlights:

10. Cameroon home (2002)
This sleeveless design never saw World Cup action in its original form. FIFA made Cameroon add sleeves, but the bold Puma design became a cult classic after it debuted at the Africa Cup of Nations.

9. England away (1966)
This famous red shirt is forever linked to England’s only World Cup win. It brings to mind Bobby Moore lifting the trophy at Wembley and Geoff Hurst’s famous hat-trick.

8. France home (1982)
Worn in one of the most dramatic matches ever, France vs West Germany in Seville. This stylish kit represents a tournament full of emotion and attacking football.

7. Netherlands home (1974)
Linked closely with Johan Cruyff and “Total Football.” The simple Adidas design and Cruyff’s choice to not wear the three stripes made it even more memorable.

6. Croatia home (1998)
The red-and-white checkerboard kit introduced Croatia to the world. Davor Šuker and his teammates reached the semi-finals in their first World Cup.

5. Nigeria home (2018)
This jersey was more than just a football shirt; it became a cultural phenomenon. Nike’s design was a global fashion hit even before the tournament started, selling out almost immediately worldwide.

4. Brazil home (1970)
The iconic yellow shirt worn by Pelé’s legendary team. It is simple and forever linked to Brazil’s beautiful football in Mexico.

3. USA away (1994)
A bold design with stars that captured the spirit of the USA hosting its first World Cup. It was controversial at first but later became a favourite.

2. Argentina away (1986)
Worn during Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal and the “Goal of the Century” against England. This shirt is forever connected to one of football’s most memorable performances.

1. West Germany home (1990)
This design classic was worn by the World Cup-winning team. Its bold geometric pattern and clean look helped shape modern football kit design.
