The number of registered voters in Nigeria has now passed 103 million. This is just in time for the 2027 general elections, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This rise in numbers comes after the end of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The exercise added 10,772,421 new voters across the country.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, who is a professor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), shared this news on Monday. He spoke during a workshop for media executives organized by the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) in partnership with INEC.
Mr Amupitan stated that INEC has finished eight out of the 14 major activities planned for the 2027 elections. He mentioned that preparations for the elections are now in the “amber zone,” showing that the countdown is getting serious.
PREMIUM TIMES also noted that INEC will hold a world press conference on Tuesday. This comes as the countdown to the 2027 elections reaches 100 days.
