The Independent National Electoral Commission says nine registered political parties have picked up access codes. This is to upload their candidates’ details for the Presidential and National Assembly elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed Haruna, the INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, shared this with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.
“As of close of work on Monday, nine political parties have collected the access code for the national elections,” he said.
The nine political parties are Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP),” he added.
Haruna explained that it is the duty of the political parties taking part in an election to come to the commission for the code. INEC will not deliver it to party offices.
Anyone who wants to collect the code for a party must bring an authorisation letter from the party leadership.
Haruna noted that INEC has laid out guidelines for candidate nomination. He advised political parties to follow these rules closely and mentioned that party officials have already received training from the commission.
He also warned political parties not to wait until the last moment to finish and submit their nomination forms online.
“INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from the close of work to midnight of the deadline date. If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” Haruna said.
NAN reports that INEC set the period from June 27 to July 11 for parties to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates through its candidate nomination portal.
NAN also reports that according to INEC's timetable for the 2027 general election, the submission of nomination forms for governorship and State Assembly candidates is set for July 18 to August 8.
