Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie says she is excited to welcome Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna. She wants to help him settle in at Brighton & Hove Albion after the winger moved to the English Premier League club.
Nnadozie is in Nigeria right now after helping the Super Falcons win two friendlies against Senegal. She is happy to see another Nigerian join Brighton and plans to assist the 18-year-old adapt when she returns to England.
“When I first saw the news online, I was really happy for him,” Nnadozie told ESPN.
“I was happy for him because just like he said, he’s been through a lot and he knows where he came from. Also, it’s just so nice to have a Nigerian mate in the team.”
Team Bonding Activities
The Super Falcons goalkeeper explained that Brighton often holds events for players from both the men’s and women’s teams. This makes Yohanna’s arrival even more special for her.
“Sometimes both teams, female and male teams, we used to go for these bonding ceremonies, and then they would always pair the players based on where they come from,” she said.
“For example, if there’s a player from one country on our team, and there’s a male player from the same country in the male team, they will just pair them together on the table so they get to chat and talk to each other.
“So it’s really good for me to have a Nigerian mate in the team.”
Yohanna's Move to Brighton
Yohanna joined from Swedish club AIK Stockholm on a five-year deal. Brighton beat out teams like Newcastle United, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig for one of Africa’s top young talents.
The teenager picked Brighton because of its strong reputation for developing young players. He said the club’s style of play and the path for new players made it an easy choice for him.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler praised Yohanna. He said the player can make an impact in attack and that fans will enjoy his creativity after the club announced the signing.
