North Korea's women's football team kicked off their Asian Games on Monday with a massive 10-0 win over Bangladesh. This match took place in Osaka, where several hundred North Korean fans cheered for their team.
The North Korean team has a strong record in youth competitions and is seen as a top contender for gold in Japan.
They completely dominated Bangladesh, scoring seven goals by half-time.
Striker Ri Song A, who grew up in Japan, was in the starting lineup and found the net in the second half.
North Korea's supporters, dressed in red, sang and chanted throughout the game.
When the men's and women's teams arrived for the Games last week, fans welcomed them with flags. They wore white blazers and pink ties.
More than 100 athletes from North Korea will compete in 14 sports at the Games, which are happening in Nagoya-Aichi. The official opening ceremony is on September 19.
North Korea, which has nuclear weapons, stopped taking part in international sports during the pandemic. They returned to competition at the Asian Games in China in 2023 and also joined the Paris Olympics.
North Korea’s women will face South Korea in a Group F match on September 21.
The men's team will kick off their tournament against China on Wednesday.
