The Nigeria Premier Football League is starting Friday night games. This is part of a new schedule to give fans more chances to watch top football.
The new plan kicks off with Matchday Nine. Shooting Stars will face Ranchers Bees at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. The match is set for Friday, October 16, starting at 6pm.
There will also be earlier kick-off times for some Saturday and Sunday matches as the season goes on.
These changes aim to create a more flexible schedule for fans. They will also give clubs and sponsors more chances to connect with supporters.
Friday night football could help bring in fans who cannot make it to the usual weekend afternoon matches.
For Shooting Stars, this game against Ranchers Bees will be their second Friday home match this season. They previously played Inter Lagos on a Friday during the first matchday, winning 2-1.
Adding more evening matches is another way for the league to update how games are presented. It should make domestic football more appealing.
The NPFL has mostly relied on weekend afternoon matches. The new schedule will give the league a more varied calendar.
The league hopes these changes will lead to more fans attending games and engaging with the sport when the new setup starts on October 16.
