The National Sports Commission (NSC) has made changes to the General Secretaries of some national sports federations. This move is part of efforts to improve how these federations operate.
The Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, shared the news during a meeting with the General Secretaries of the national sports federations in Abuja.
Mr Olopade praised the secretaries for their hard work and dedication to the growth of Nigerian sports. He also thanked them for their support since the current leadership took over, which includes Chairman Shehu Dikko and himself as Director General.
He explained that the reshuffling is meant to boost the administration and operations of the federations. This aligns with the government's plan to develop sports in Nigeria.
"Let me be clear that no secretary is being removed because he or she has been sacked. They are only being posted to another federation to carry out another assignment. This is how much the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and I believe in all our secretaries and their professional expertise," Mr Olopade said.
He also noted, "I have always said that the secretaries are the lifeline of our sports. They play a very critical role in the fulfilment of our mandate at the NSC to statutorily regulate and develop sports in the country, in line with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR."
Under the new changes, Bunmi Oluode takes over as the Secretary General of the Athletics Federation. He replaces Israel Inwang, who moves to the Padel Federation.
Rita Mosindi is now the Acting Secretary General of the Basketball Federation. Amina Amanchi, the former Secretary General, will now head the Rowing Federation.
