A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Kamoru Omokoye, has been killed by suspected cultists at Abijo Bus Stop in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro found out that Omokoye was attacked and shot in the head by the assailants on Sunday morning.
Reports say the suspects came to the bus stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350 before they attacked him.
The attackers quickly drove away after the shooting.
A police source in the community confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro on Monday. The source said the assailants are thought to be cultists.
The source added, "The incident happened around 9am on Sunday. Two men suspected to be cultists arrived at Abijo Bus Stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350 and shot the victim, who was a member of NURTW. They sped off right after the attack."
"The victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, Lagos State, for treatment. But sadly, a doctor on duty confirmed him dead at the hospital."
"After getting the news, detectives went to the scene and searched the area to catch the suspects."
In another post seen by PUNCH Metro on Monday, an anti-cultism group called Naija Confra mentioned that Omokoye, also known as Zobo, was sitting where local gin, called ogogoro, was sold when the attackers came and shot at him.
About three other people there also got hit by the gunfire.
Naija Confra wrote, "Zobo was reportedly at a drinking spot with others at the bus stop when the attackers came and opened fire. Some people ran away, while at least three people got gunshot wounds. Zobo was killed in the attack. He had worked at Awoyaya Bus Stop before moving to GRA Bus Stop and had an eight-month-old child."
The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident.
She said, "The police have started investigating the incident."
