Benue State Commissioner for Information, Solomon Iorpev, has said that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, is causing problems for the state government.

Iorpev made this comment after some youths blocked Obi on Tuesday. He pointed out that this is not the first time Obi has ignored protocol by not officially informing the state government about his visits, given his important status.

The commissioner called Obi a high-profile individual and a former governor, stating that the state should provide security for him. He said, “A high-profile person who has been a former governor of a state is coming into the state; he should have written a letter to the State Government.”

Iorpev continued, saying, “We are supposed to guarantee his safety and protection, but in an instance where no letter was written, we could not guarantee his safety.” He added, “This is not the first time he is doing this. He is just looking for our trouble. We are peace loving and hospitable people.”

The commissioner mentioned that he did not know who was behind the blockage of Obi's path. He also noted that Obi's visit sadly happened at the same time as a meeting of youths from all 23 local government areas of the state.

Iorpev said, “So, if they were coming from either Tarka, Gboko, Buruku, Ushongo, Konshisha or Vandeikya at the same time of his visit and blocked the road, it is unfortunate. I do not know the youths who did that.”
