Former Super Eagles star Peter Odemwingie has said that his failed move from West Bromwich Albion to Queens Park Rangers in 2013 was misunderstood. He believes that the full story behind that deadline-day incident was never told properly, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Odemwingie was at the center of one of the most talked-about transfer deadline-day events in the Premier League. He was filmed outside QPR's Loftus Road stadium trying to push through a move from West Brom.
Looking back on the incident over a decade later, the former Nigeria international criticized how the event was covered, especially by Sky Sports.
"The problem about this whole story is that nobody is interested in the truth. They just want to be distracted. Sky Sports milked this situation for so many years. I think it's just wickedness really," Odemwingie said in a recent interview.
Fresh Conditions and Misunderstandings
The former West Brom player also mentioned that the club added a last-minute condition during negotiations. They insisted that QPR midfielder Junior Hoilett had to move to West Brom for the transfer to happen.
"But then, West Brom also misbehaved that day, saying it was a conditional decision and that Hoilett had to go the other way for the deal to happen," he explained.
"There was no such condition given and they misbehaved."
Odemwingie, who joined West Brom from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2010, eventually went back to the club after the QPR deal fell through.
He was later brought back into the squad before moving to Cardiff City at the end of the 2012/13 season. While at West Brom, he scored 30 Premier League goals for the club.
He finished his Premier League career with 37 goals in 127 matches for West Brom, Cardiff, Stoke City, and Bristol City. Odemwingie was also named West Brom's Player of the Season in 2010/11 after he scored 15 league goals in his first season.
