The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Solomon Adeola, has announced that the state will aim to gather at least two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election. This number comes from Ogun's more than three million registered voters.
Adeola made this statement on Saturday during the launch of the City Boy Movement in Ogun State. He said this large support would show appreciation for the projects and help from the Tinubu administration in the state.
Currently, Ogun has about 3.01 million registered voters, making it one of the states with the highest voter registration in Nigeria.
Adeola stated, "No other state can match us with where we are today. We welcome the City Boys Movement in Ogun State, and you will not be alone. Because we have a total of 3.01m registered voters in Ogun State, and we are targeting nothing less than 2m votes for the President to appreciate what the President has done for us in Ogun State."
He added, "Our votes in this state must not be less than two million votes because all that the President is doing for us must not go in vain, and that is why we must be ready. We are now about number three or four in Nigeria in terms of the total number of registered voters."
Adeola highlighted several federal projects as proof of the benefits Ogun has received under the Tinubu administration. These include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, the Sokoto-Badagry road, and the ongoing work on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
He said, "With how much is given, much is expected. The President has done a lot for us in Ogun State. Even before becoming your governor, I can tell you that the state is loaded by a singular action. If the IGR of this state is still less than N500bn, with all that the President has now done, I can tell you that within one year, our IGR will hit N1trn."
He noted that Ogun has also benefitted from the Federal Government's efforts to improve its infrastructure and natural resources.
He explained, "Under his watch, within three and a half years of his government, the coastal road, we are part of the beneficiary. We are also a beneficiary of the Sokoto-Badagry road. The Sagamu-Benin Expressway, which is still under construction from Sagamu interchange, has continued and that is courtesy of our President."
Adeola also revealed that oil was recently found in Ogun State and that exploration would start soon.
"Recently, we discovered oil in Ogun State, one in Eba and the other in Tongegi. The one in Eba, exploration will begin there shortly," he said.
He mentioned that this discovery led Tinubu to approve a naval base in the state to enhance security around the new oil infrastructure.
"Because of the discovery of oil, Tinubu has approved that a Naval base is established in Ogun to create deserved security for the infrastructure," Adeola added.
At the same event, the Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, encouraged young Nigerians to take charge of the country's political future by voting.
"The youths are the owners of Nigeria and if anyone says otherwise, they may be speaking in ignorance. From what I can see too, it shows that young Nigerians have agreed that President Bola Tinubu should continue," Salako said.
He described the policies and projects of the administration as investments in the future of young Nigerians. He urged them to engage actively in the democratic process.
He stated, "This is laying the foundation for progressive Nigeria and the development of the country which is for the youth of the country. So we youths must be ready to vote and hold future in our hands."
Salako also asked the people to support the APC, calling Adeola a candidate who cares about young people.
"It is also important to remind you that our candidate in Ogun State is a youth-friendly personality. So, from top to finish, please vote for the ruling party," he added.
Earlier, the Ogun State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Kakorudeen Yusuf, emphasized the need for young people to have real roles in governance.
He said the movement wants to ensure that the energy, ideas, and creativity of young Nigerians lead to real contributions in public life.
"As young people deserve a seat at the table, a voice in governance and a platform through their energy, ideas, talents and ideas are translated into meaningful anticipation in public life and affairs," Yusuf said.
