A group of young Nigerians in Politics has brought its voter education campaign to Lusada Market in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State. They are encouraging traders to get involved in the 2027 elections.
This initiative, organized by GenZ in Politics, is part of their Market-to-Market Engagement Campaign. The goal is to raise political awareness and educate voters in markets and communities across the state.
As political activities ramp up for the 2027 general elections, various political groups and candidates are stepping up their grassroots efforts nationwide.
Voter education is crucial. It helps eligible voters understand how to vote correctly on election day. This way, they can avoid mistakes that could make their votes invalid.
The campaign kicked off on Wednesday, led by the Convener of GenZ in Politics and Consultant to the Ogun State Governor, Sunmola Olashile. She was joined by members and supporters of the group.
Olashile shared this information in a statement on Thursday. During the outreach, the group also sought support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi. He is after the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress. They also supported other APC candidates, like Jimoh Ojugbele for Ogun West Senatorial District and High Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun, known as LarryBash, for the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.
A big part of the campaign was voter education. Traders learned how to properly thumbprint their ballot papers. This practical demonstration caught the attention of market women, men, and other traders. The organizers emphasized the need for voters to grasp the voting process before they head to the polls.
Speaking on the initiative, Olashile said young people must engage in politics and discuss the country's future. She said, “The campaign would go beyond political mobilisation by creating opportunities for citizens, particularly young people and market communities, to become more informed about the electoral process.
“The Lusada Market engagement marks the beginning of the planned Market-to-Market Campaign across Ogun State. Similar activities are expected in other markets and communities as we approach the 2027 general elections.”
Sunmola added that future engagements will focus on political awareness, voter education, and grassroots interaction.
Recall that Yayi obtained the N50 million All Progressives Congress governorship nomination forms for the 2027 Ogun State election in April. This was done on his behalf, marking his entry into the race for the state’s top position.
