Open Letter to Mr President: Issues in Osun APC and Need for Accountability

Your Excellency sir,

We are writing as worried members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. We belong to the Osun APC Concerned Group. We want to bring to your attention some issues that we believe played a big part in the disappointing result of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.

We are not bitter or trying to settle any personal scores. This is a patriotic call for reflection, accountability and action within our party. The APC must not face the same problems that led to its defeat in 2026, especially with the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections coming up.

We think the party's review after the election should look deeper than just the actions of opposition parties and the election environment. It should also check if some members of the APC worked against the party’s interest, whether on purpose or by accident.

NATIONAL SECRETARY’S LOSS IN HIS HOME AREA

One major issue that needs urgent attention is the performance of the party’s National Secretary in his own political area.

For the second time in a row, the National Secretary lost his ward and Local Government, Osogbo, to the opposition in a governorship election.

While losing an election is not proof of sabotage, the repeated loss of a senior national officer raises important questions that need to be looked into.

There are also troubling reports about why he acted the way he did during the 2022 and 2026 elections.

Some party members believe that if His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola CON, had won his re-election in 2022, the National Secretary, who was a Senator from the same area, would not have had a real chance to become the APC’s governorship candidate in 2026.

This political thinking may have led to his alleged actions against the party’s interest in 2022.

We believe this claim should be looked into. If personal ambition affected the APC’s success in 2022, it would be a serious betrayal of party loyalty.

2022 TO 2026: A CONTINUING TREND?

Moving to 2026, another political agenda seemed to come up.

The Osun West governorship plan was gaining ground, while the National Secretary was reportedly aiming for the governorship ticket from Osun Central.

When the party turned its focus to the Osun West interest, questions arose about how committed the National Secretary was to the party’s candidate and campaign.

Party members say the National Secretary did not get involved in the fight for the party’s governorship project until just a few days before the election.

Even more concerning is the question of how much he contributed to the campaign before he joined in late.

Why did a national officer of the party stay away from such an important governorship contest for so long, only to get involved when the election was near?

These questions need clear answers, not just accusations without proof.

THE “OSOGBO 2030” PLAN AND THE 2026 ELECTION

There are also unconfirmed reports that the National Secretary told some political associates that his ambition to be governor would be more likely under another four years of Ademola Adeleke's administration than under an eight-year APC government led by Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

We want to stress that this is unconfirmed and not a proven fact.

But because of the seriousness of the claim and the position of the person involved, it must be investigated by the right party authorities.

If such thinking existed, it could explain why some followers pushed the “Osogbo 2030” idea during the 2026 election.

The worry is that a plan presented as a future project might have weakened the immediate goal of the APC, to elect its candidate, AMBO, in 2026.

If party members were encouraged to focus on personal ambitions instead of the party's immediate success, it goes beyond personal politics. It raises questions of party loyalty and discipline.

The APC should check if the “Osogbo 2030” plan was just a personal political goal or a way to undermine the party’s 2026 governorship campaign.

THE REPORTED BACKDOOR DEAL WITH MR PRESIDENT

We are also worried about reports of a secret deal where some unhappy party members met with Your Excellency shortly before the Osun governorship election.

At a time when the party needed unity, any move to create different communication channels or present a divided story to the President could have made an already tricky political situation worse.

We ask Your Excellency to find out the details of these meetings, who arranged them, what was discussed and if the information shared truly reflected the situation in Osun APC.

THE ALLEGED SURVEY REPORT

Another issue needing investigation is the alleged survey report on the Osun governorship election that the National Secretary supposedly presented to the National Working Committee.

A survey meant to guide a political party must be properly done, independently verified and based on trustworthy methods.

If such a sensitive report is controlled by someone with personal political interests, it raises concerns about its independence and trustworthiness.

We call for an independent review of the report. The party should find out who ordered the survey, who carried it out, what methods were used, the areas covered, the data collected and how it affected the party’s decisions.

THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST HON. ADEGBOYEGA OYETOLA

We also need to discuss what seems to be a continued effort to attack Hon. Gboyega Oyetola CON, the former Governor of Osun State and now Minister.

The claim that the Minister picked national and state assembly candidates and federal appointees alone looks like an attempt to downplay his contributions and weaken the party’s structure after it lost power in 2022.

We are not saying the Minister is above criticism. But political disagreement should not rewrite history or diminish those who have helped the party survive.

The Minister’s work in rebuilding the APC in Osun State deserves recognition.

We also urge him to speak out against hypocrisy and false narratives. Political leaders sometimes need to defend not just themselves but also the truth about their efforts to keep the party alive.

A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESTRUCTURING

Your Excellency, the 2026 Osun governorship election should serve as a serious warning to the APC.

The party must carry out a fair and thorough review after the election. This should look into the actions of national, state and local party officials, campaign structures and other important players.

If it is found that anyone deliberately harmed the party’s chances, they must face consequences according to the party’s rules.

This should not be a witch-hunt. It must be a fair process based on solid evidence.

OUR APPEAL

We call on Your Excellency and the national APC leaders to:

Look into all credible claims of sabotage regarding the 2026 Osun governorship election and hold those responsible accountable.

Investigate why the National Secretary lost his ward and Osogbo Local Government repeatedly and if his actions affected the results.

Check the claims around the 2022 election, especially if personal ambition influenced actions that weakened the APC’s re-election bid.

Look into the National Secretary's late involvement in the 2026 campaign, despite being a senior official.

Find out the truth behind the “Osogbo 2030” plan and whether it was used to undermine the APC’s 2026 campaign.

Investigate the meetings between some party members and Your Excellency before the election, including who set them up and what was discussed.

Subject the alleged survey report on the Osun election to an independent review.

Protect the integrity of party leaders and members who genuinely worked to rebuild the APC, like Hon. Gboyega Oyetola, while allowing for necessary criticism.

Fully involve genuine party members in preparations for the 2027 elections, regardless of personal ambitions.

CONCLUSION

Your Excellency, the APC must learn from Osun.

We cannot let personal ambitions decide the fate of the entire party.

The 2026 election has shown the need for better discipline, accountability, transparency and teamwork.

Those who sacrificed for the party must not be sidelined by those whose ambitions are more important than the APC’s collective interest.

We urge Your Excellency to ensure a serious, fair and fearless review of the events that led to the 2026 Osun governorship election.

The goal should not be revenge. It should be about truth, accountability and reform.

The APC needs all sincere stakeholders, leaders, elders, youths, women, grassroots mobilisers and regular party members, working together for 2027.

The party must not repeat the mistakes of 2022 and 2026.

It is time to find the weaknesses, expose failures, reward loyalty, punish acts of sabotage and rebuild the APC fairly and with the party’s interest in mind.

Osun APC can rise again, but only if we have the courage to face the truth.
