President of the International Table Tennis Federation Africa, Wahid Oshodi, believes Africa’s young table tennis players are ready to shine on the global stage. This follows their strong performances at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships and Cup held in Accra, Ghana.
Oshodi said the young players showed great progress during the championships. Their performances highlighted the advancements in youth development across the continent.
After the tournament, Oshodi called the performances “breathtaking.” He mentioned that many of these players could soon move up to senior competitions.
“Many of these players are ready to make the leap to senior competition. We’ll take the advice of top coaches and provide the support needed to help them transition,” Oshodi said.
“Expect to see some of them competing at the African Senior Championships later this year.”
Oshodi, who has been ITTF Africa president for two years, shared that his team has focused on improving technical skills. They have done this by increasing training sessions and coaching camps for young players.
He also pointed out the importance of developing coaches, umpires, and competition managers to make the sport stronger throughout Africa.
“We’ve worked hard to improve the sport across the continent, especially in the technical development of our young players,” he said.
“By developing coaches and technical officials, we’re strengthening the foundations of the sport across the continent.”
Oshodi also promised support for African teams that qualified for the World Youth Championships. He said financial issues should not stop these teams from competing.
“Working with the ITTF, we’ll help with travel and training costs. There’s no point qualifying if you can’t attend due to financial inadequacies,” Oshodi said.
He added that the ongoing improvement of young players shows that Africa’s long-term investment in youth development is starting to pay off.
