Former Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing and ex-Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, will be the special guest at the final of the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Cup. This event will take place at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana on Wednesday.

The two-day tournament is named the Babatunde Raji Fashola (BRF) Cup. This is to recognize his role in promoting table tennis in Africa, especially after starting the Lagos Table Tennis Classics in 2013.

Fashola will be joined by important figures like the Executive Committee of the African Table Tennis Federation. They are led by President Wahid Oshodi, who will also be there to support young talents from across Africa.

The competition aims to highlight emerging players and encourage healthy competition among Africa’s youth. The long-term goal is to turn this event into a global tournament.

Wassim Essid from Tunisia, the last year’s U-19 boys’ singles champion, is back and a favorite to win. Algeria’s Tania Morice and Bilel Zouitene, both former U-15 winners, will now compete in the U-19 category.

Top seeds include Tunisia’s Essid and Egypt’s Yara Elbadawy in the U-19 category. Uganda’s Joseph Sebatindira and Tunisia’s Ela Saidi lead the U-15 rankings.

The boys’ U-19 singles is expected to be very competitive. Nigeria’s Matthew Kuti is in great form after helping his country beat top-seeded Egypt at the ITTF Africa Youth Championships.

In the girls’ U-19 category, Algerian sisters Jade Morice and Tania Morice are likely to challenge the Egyptian favorites.
