Nigeria’s push for titles at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships heats up on Wednesday. The country’s U-15 girls, U-19 boys, and U-19 girls teams are set to fight for spots in their finals. The matches will take place at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana.
The Nigerian teams are still in the race across three events. They have shown great skills in previous rounds, leading to exciting semi-final matchups against some strong teams from Africa.
In the U-15 girls’ event, Nigeria will face off against top seeds Egypt in the first semi-final. Defending champions Algeria will play against Tunisia in the other semi-final.
The U-19 boys secured their semi-final spot after a strong 3-0 win over hosts Ghana in the quarter-finals. Nigeria’s Quadri Atunwon stood out in this match. He came back from two games down to beat Ghana’s Israel Aklie 3-2. This win silenced the home crowd.
Matthew Fabunmi and Sultan Agunbiade finished the match with straight games wins over their Ghanaian opponents. This strong performance sets Nigeria up to face Tunisia in the semi-finals.
In other matches, Egypt easily defeated Uganda 3-0, even after a tough start from Joseph Sebantidira. Tunisia also won against Togo 3-0, while Algeria overcame South Africa with a score of 3-1.
In the U-19 girls’ category, Nigeria will go up against Algeria for a chance to reach the final. The defending champions Egypt will meet Uganda in the other semi-final.
With many teams already out of the competition, Wednesday’s matches are expected to be fierce. Africa’s top youth table tennis teams will clash for spots in the championship finals.
