Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen scored his first UEFA Champions League goal this season. His goal helped Galatasaray beat Lille 4-2 away from home on Wednesday. In another match, Como handed Manchester United a heavy 4-1 defeat.

Osimhen’s goal marked Galatasaray’s first win of the campaign. This victory ended their five-game losing streak away from home in this competition. It also boosted their chances of reaching the knockout stages.

The Nigerian forward was named Man of the Match. He scored after Lucas Torreira had put the Turkish side ahead early in the second half. Osimhen fired past Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer to make it 4-2 but did not celebrate against his former club.

The 27-year-old played for Lille during the 2019/2020 season. He scored 18 goals in all competitions and won the club’s Player of the Season award before moving to Napoli.

Galatasaray took an early lead through Yunus Akgün. However, Soriba Diaoune scored twice to put Lille ahead. Aleksey Batrakov equalised before half-time. This set the stage for an exciting second half where Torreira and Osimhen secured the win.

The result leaves Lille without a point after three matches. Osimhen’s goal gives Galatasaray a much-needed lift in their European campaign.

In Italy, Como added to Manchester United’s troubles with a 4-1 win at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Nico Paz opened the scoring within two minutes. He later set up Anastasios Douvikas to double the lead after the break. Paz then netted his second of the night, taking advantage of a mistake by substitute Carlos Baleba. Jacobo Ramon headed in Como’s fourth goal in the 76th minute. Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation for United.

This defeat means United has not won in their last seven matches across all competitions. They have three draws and four losses.

For Nigerian football fans, it was heartwarming to see Ademola Lookman grab an assist on Tuesday and Osimhen returning to the Champions League scoresheet.
