The Osun State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement has introduced Ibraheem Adekunle as its candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
The party is ready to surprise other parties that will field candidates in the upcoming election.
At the unveiling event in Osogbo, Osun State, the party also presented candidates for other positions in the upcoming general elections. Party members were urged to work hard and gather support for all APM candidates.
This information came from a statement signed by Adekunle, which was released in Osogbo on Friday.
While speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the APM candidate for Osun Central said winning the election will not only depend on the political party but also on how much the electorate accepts the candidate.
Adekunle expressed confidence in winning the seat in the election scheduled for January 16, 2027. He believes his connections and support across the 10 local government areas in the district give him an advantage over his competitors.
"Elections in Nigeria have moved beyond party labels. People now look at the capacity, credibility and accessibility of the candidate. I have been on ground, I have the structure, and I have the support of the people. With all these, I do not doubt that Osun Central is ours to win."
He added, "Elections are no longer about political parties but about the support of the people and the structure put in place by the candidate. Definitely, I am going to win the Osun Central Senatorial seat. I am not bothered about any opposition. I have what it takes to win. APM will shock its opponents at the poll."
Adekunle called on the people of Osun to vote for energetic and accessible representatives from the APM, highlighting that the party is focused on youth.
"My message to the people of Osun is that they should vote for vibrant people to represent them both at the federal and state levels under the platform of the APM."
He continued, "This party is for the youths, and the youths should take advantage of this opportunity to vote for someone who will be on the ground at all times to listen to them and work to better their lives."
Earlier, the Osun APM Chairman, Adewale Adebayo, stated that Osun Central needs a young leader capable of delivering in political office. He noted that the large attendance at the unveiling was a sign of the candidate's acceptance by the people.
Adebayo said, "Osun Central needs energy, new ideas and a representative who will not abandon his people after election. What you are seeing here today is a clear statement that our party and our candidate have been accepted. I urge our people to support and vote for Adekunle and all APM candidates for real change."
Babatunde Tijani, who represented the party's presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, spoke to the crowd. He said the APM is ready to win the presidential election.
He urged party members to return to their communities and "Start the real work. We need to mobilise and let our people know that the APM is the best party for them. Our people should bring out their Permanent Voter Cards, and those who are yet to collect theirs should go and collect them."
Before becoming the Osun Central Senatorial candidate for APM, Adekunle was in the Peoples Democratic Party. He was involved in distributing food palliatives to party members in Osun Central Senatorial District to help ease the burden of the tough economy.
After receiving the food items, the PDP leadership in Osun Central District praised Adekunle for giving 3,000 bags of rice to the party members in the district.
