Osun election: Former lawmaker calls for peace and responsible politics

A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on political leaders and residents of Osun State to avoid violence and promote peace as the August 15 governorship election approaches.

Oyintiloye made this statement on Wednesday while speaking to journalists during an empowerment programme for informal workers at his campaign office in Ibokun, located in the Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

The All Progressives Congress chieftain said his party is a peaceful group. He urged everyone involved to promote tolerance and responsible political behavior before, during, and after the election.

He explained that the empowerment programme is part of his effort to support the people and boost grassroots participation in governance.

The programme attracted many informal workers such as barbers, hairdressers, fumigators, welders, textile workers, members of the National Union of Tailors and Electrical Workers, market traders, commercial motorcyclists, and members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to see this gesture as proof of his commitment to the welfare of ordinary people, especially those whose livelihoods rely on their daily work and skills.

He asked the participants to go back to their communities and vote for Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) and the APC. He assured them that their support would lead to real benefits from governance.

Oyintiloye promised that an Oyebamiji-led government would focus on inclusive governance, economic empowerment, skills development, and better opportunities for the informal sector.

Bishop Michael Adewale, a community leader, praised the initiative. He described it as a sign of politics that cares for the grassroots and the welfare of ordinary citizens.

He urged the beneficiaries to stay united and peaceful before, during, and after the election. He stressed that political differences should not break the existing ties among the people.

Speaking for the artisans and other informal workers, Comrade Tijani Bello thanked the former Governor Gboyega Oyetola for the support given to them during the civic engagement programme led by Oyintiloye.

Finally, the ex-lawmaker appealed to residents of Obokun and Osun State to vote peacefully and ensure that the election takes place in a peaceful atmosphere filled with unity, tolerance, and respect.
