Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has handed the Labour Party flag to Dr Chima Anyaso, who is also known as OFUJI. This is as the party gets ready to go up against Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, for the Bende Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 elections.
Otti presented the flag on Sunday at the Umuahia Township Stadium. The event was part of the party's campaign flag-off and saw many party leaders, members of the National and State Assemblies, government officials, and supporters in attendance.
The governor called on voters in Abia State to back Labour Party candidates. He said the party is committed to representing the people's interests.
“Make sure you vote for all the Labour Party candidates. I am handing over this flag to Dr Chima Anyaso (OFUJI), and I am doing that in the name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,” Otti stated.
After receiving the flag, Anyaso called the event a key moment in his political journey. He promised to take his campaign to communities throughout the constituency.
“Having received this flag today, we are going to visit the local government areas, the 13 wards of Bende and the 214 polling units to give our people a message of hope,” he said.
He mentioned that the campaign would focus on grassroots mobilisation and talking directly with residents to hear their concerns and expectations.
Anyaso also noted that his political group has been active in the constituency even before the official campaign flag-off. He expressed confidence in his message of development and responsive representation.
His campaign will be a direct contest with Kalu, who currently represents Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is the Deputy Speaker.
The Labour Party’s campaign is set to focus on gathering support across the constituency as the 2027 general elections draw near.
