The Oyo State Government is happy about the release of corps members from the state who were kidnapped in Imo State. They called their freedom a good development.
Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, shared this in a statement on Wednesday evening in Ibadan, the state capital. This came shortly after the news broke about the release of the 20 corps members.
Mr Oyelade congratulated the governments of Imo and Oyo states, along with the federal government, for successfully getting the corps members released after being held for a while.
But he also urged the federal government to work harder to fight the ongoing issues of kidnapping and banditry in the country. He said that the federal government has the biggest power and ability to handle the insecurity problem and should be more active in keeping Nigerians safe.
The commissioner noted that the release of the corps members was commendable. Still, he insisted that more actions are needed to stop similar events from happening again.
Mr Oyelade called on relevant security agencies to improve their intelligence work and carry out coordinated efforts to rescue those still held and to stop future kidnappings.
He repeated the Oyo State government's promise to ensure the safety and welfare of its people, especially the young ones serving the nation under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reminds us that gunmen kidnapped the 20 prospective corps members on 1 October. They were traveling from Ibadan on the Onitsha-Owerri expressway in Imo State.
