The Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre (FWC) in Abuja, Sarah Omakwu, has said that real romance in marriage comes from humility and constant service, not from expensive gifts or fancy ceremonies.
She shared this message in a video discussing marriage and family life, challenging the usual ideas about romance in marriage.
Pastor Sarah explained that Christian leadership in marriage should show through sacrifice, responsibility, and daily service at home. She pointed out that many couples focus too much on ceremonies instead of what matters.
“Humility is one of the most attractive qualities in a husband. Sometimes, the most romantic thing a husband can do is to serve with humility,” she said.
“Humility is attractive. Service is romantic,” she added.
The mother of three encouraged young men not to put off marriage because of the cost of big ceremonies. She believes marriage should not be complicated, a point she often makes in her teachings about relationships.
She recounted her own simple wedding with her late husband, Pastor Inalegwu Omakwu. She mentioned that a church member lent her a wedding gown and that they had the ceremony in church, followed by a simple reception.
Pastor Sarah also advised women in the church to look for a partner with good character instead of just material wealth. She warned that early signs of bad behavior often reveal deeper personality issues.
She criticized actions like asking for gifts back after breakups, saying these show immaturity and bad character that should not be overlooked when choosing a partner.
“As a woman, please don’t marry someone who is not kind, the type of person who goes back to collect the things they gave their girlfriend after a breakup,” she said.
Over the years, Pastor Sarah has gained public attention for her sermons and occasional comments on social issues.
In 2015, a sermon clip of hers went viral on social media and sparked a lot of discussion. The church later said that some parts of her message were taken out of context, and she provided clarifications.
She has also spoken out about church behavior and ethical giving, which have led to discussions in Christian circles.
Pastor Sarah co-founded Family Worship Centre with her late husband on 11 April 1993 in Abuja. After her husband passed away in 2003, she took over the leadership of the church. She has three children.
