PDP Candidate Vows to Create Jobs and Empower Anambra South

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Anambra South in the 2027 general election, Prince Samben Nwosu, has promised to focus on job creation, empowerment, and local development if he wins.

Nwosu, who is a former organizing secretary of the PDP and a past Federal Commissioner at the Public Complaints Commission, made this promise during a meeting with journalists at his home in Nnewi on Tuesday.

He stated that his approach would be community-based to tackle the economic challenges facing residents in the seven local government areas of the senatorial district.

Anambra South includes Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Orumba North, Orumba South, Nnewi North, and Nnewi South Local Government Areas.

Nwosu mentioned that he is running for the Senate to provide quality representation and not to chase personal wealth.

"I am contesting to attract quality representation to the good people of Anambra South constituency. I am going to the Red Chambers of the National Assembly to serve and not to acquire wealth for my personal use," he said.

He added, "If elected, I will bring a brand new representation to the zone. I am going to the National Assembly to complete the good works which my town’s brother, late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, was doing before his unfortunate demise."

Nwosu said his campaign will emphasize engaging with residents, especially the youth, to understand their socio-economic needs better.

"My upcoming campaign will focus more on engaging the people, especially the young ones, to know their socio-economic challenges and not to blow sirens around," he said.

He also promised to create an empowerment model that would provide long-term economic opportunities, instead of just short-term help during elections.

He stated, "If elected, I will introduce an empowerment model that will sustain my constituents throughout the election cycle; not a situation where voters’ mandates and conscience will be purchased with stipends that will sustain them for one week or less."

Nwosu also pledged that each of the seven local government areas in the district would have a special project under his representation.

"If elected, every LGA in my Senatorial district will have my signature project, and will feel my presence. Whatever bill or motion is presented on the floor of the Senate will be such that will have direct impact on the daily lives and businesses of our people," he added.

Regarding the 2027 election, Nwosu said he would fight against vote buying and electoral manipulation, urging voters to protect their ballots.

He mentioned that the PDP would use its political structure to ensure votes are counted correctly at polling units across the district.

Nwosu also encouraged voters to reject any attempts by politicians to bribe them with money or gifts ahead of the election.

He stated, "The 2027 Senatorial election in Anambra South is between myself, the PDP and the people of Anambra South. As a former organizing secretary of the PDP in Anambra, it allows me to win as a grassroots mobiliser."

Nwosu expressed confidence in his party's grassroots strength, saying rival candidates do not pose a real threat.

"APC, APGA and NDC candidates cannot be a threat to my aspiration. Apart from my closeness to the people at the grassroots, PDP remains the only political party whose structure has noticeable presence in every household in Nigeria. So, getting the mandate and defending it cannot be our problem," he added.

The PDP candidate criticized lawmakers who only return to their constituencies during elections to hand out food and other temporary assistance.

He emphasized that his empowerment program aims to provide lasting opportunities for constituents throughout the electoral cycle.

Anambra South Senatorial District is one of three districts in the state, covering seven local government areas, including Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Orumba North, and Orumba South.

This district has a strong concentration of commercial and industrial activities, especially around Nnewi, while agriculture, trade, and small businesses remain key sources of income in the area.

Given this background, Nwosu stated that his legislative agenda will focus on creating economic opportunities, supporting businesses, and boosting local development across the district.
