The Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his win in Saturday’s governorship election. They said the result shows the trust the people have in him.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the party noted the importance of Adeleke’s re-election. They wished him success as he starts another four-year term.
“The Peoples Democratic Party warmly congratulates the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his well-deserved victory,” the statement said.
The party also mentioned the political situation around Adeleke’s re-election. They noted that even though he ran on the Accord Party's platform, the PDP is proud of its role in the democratic growth of Osun State.
“While Governor Adeleke has chosen to pursue his political journey on the platform of the Accord Party, the PDP remains proud of its contributions to the democratic development of Osun State,” Mohammed added.
Adeleke won his second term by defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in a tight election that had 15 political parties involved.
According to the final results from the Independent National Electoral Commission, Adeleke got 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes. The governor won by 66,252 votes.
Adeleke took 19 out of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji won 11. Salaami did not win any, including his home council of Ejigbo.
This result shows a big increase in Adeleke’s winning margin compared to the 2022 governorship election, where he beat the then incumbent APC governor, Gboyega Oyetola, by 28,344 votes. Adeleke scored 403,371 votes against Oyetola’s 375,027.
The 2026 election also saw a major political shift for Adeleke. He was elected governor in 2022 on the PDP platform but ran for re-election under the Accord Party.
The PDP believes Adeleke’s victory should lead to better focus on governance and the people's welfare. They called on political actors to prioritize the interests of Osun State and Nigeria over party politics.
“May this victory mark the beginning of an even greater chapter of progress, unity and prosperity for the people of Osun State,” the party said.
They also urged all political actors to accept the election results and work towards keeping peace and stability in the state.
“We wish Governor Adeleke success as he continues to serve the people of Osun State and urge all political actors to place the interests, peace and progress of the state and the nation above partisan considerations,” the statement concluded.
