The Peoples Democratic Party has started talks with the Independent National Electoral Commission. They want to fix the issue of some candidates missing from the final list for the 2027 governorship elections. This list was released on Saturday.
In a statement on Sunday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the party is taking this situation seriously. They are looking for a way to solve the problem according to the law and the set electoral guidelines.
The party also told affected candidates, members, and supporters to stay calm and be patient while they talk with INEC.
The statement said, “The party wishes to assure all affected candidates, members and supporters that it is already engaging with INEC to address the issues responsible for the omissions. We want to secure an amicable resolution in accordance with the law and established electoral guidelines.
“The PDP, therefore, assures all concerned that it is treating this development with the utmost seriousness it deserves and will communicate further developments as appropriate. The party is committed to ensuring that all legitimate concerns are properly addressed with the commission.
“Consequently, the party calls on all affected candidates, members and supporters to remain calm, exercise patience and refrain from actions or statements capable of undermining the ongoing engagements with the commission.”
PUNCH Online reports that on Saturday, INEC released its final list of candidates for the February 6, 2027, governorship elections. The list did not include any PDP candidates for Ogun and Gombe states.
The lists, signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, are on the commission’s website. They show 13 candidates in Ogun and 16 in Gombe, with no PDP candidate listed in either state.
Those left out include Ladi Adebutu in Ogun and Isa Ali Pantami in Gombe.
