Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephina Otabor, known as Phyna, has shared how she used strategy to beat actress Nkechi Blessing in a boxing match in Lagos.
Phyna knocked out Nkechi in the first female celebrity boxing match at the “Chaos in the Ring” event on Wednesday, October 1, 2026.
In a chat with comedian Egungun, Phyna explained in a video posted on Saturday that she avoided a direct fight with Nkechi, who is physically bigger than her.
“Everything is not by gra-gra, everything is not by ‘I too get power pass.’ Sometimes, you need to apply what we call logic,” Phyna said.
She talked about using wisdom instead of anger after noticing Nkechi’s size.
“She dey on a mightier size than me. So, as a smart girl, I suppose apply wisdom and refuse to be led by anger, but by wisdom,” she said.
Phyna mentioned she trained for just 10 days before the fight. Her coach helped her improve her boxing skills during that time.
She also said she changed her approach after noticing that Nkechi was not using a normal boxing stance when the fight started.
This made her realize that Nkechi wanted to fight more like a street fight than a boxing match.
“When we enter stage to want fight, normally my coach teach me boxing. But as we dey stage, as we want start, I notice say she no hold her hand like who want box.
“Na there I come to understand say, okay, she want run me street fight, because she know say they no go quick dey foul am,” Phyna explained.
After studying Nkechi’s moves, Phyna adjusted her strategy. Her coach kept telling her to keep moving during the fight.
The reality star added that she planned to make the fight fun, saying she wanted to “run” Nkechi around the ring and “rub” her to the ground.
“I was having fun. It ended too fast. I promised her something. I said, ‘I go use you, I go use you run round, run round, run round, run round… I go use you rub ground,’” she said.
When asked about a rematch, Phyna said she was not interested in facing Nkechi again.
“Rematch? There’s no need. In life, they say, ‘Children, obey thy parent so your days may be long.’ I don’t disrespect her, so make curse no follow me,” she said.
Phyna was also asked which other celebrity she would like to fight next. She mentioned former BBNaija housemate Wathoni Anyansi and actress Etinosa Idemudia, saying they were among those who had been “forcing” her to respect them.
She joked about facing Etinosa in a one-on-one fight or “use her rub ground.”
The match between Phyna and Nkechi was a highlight of the “Chaos in the Ring” event, which also had other celebrity fights.
After losing, Nkechi said she wants to return to acting, stating that she is not a professional boxer.
