Pochettino signs new deal to coach USA until 2030 World Cup

Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new contract to stay as head coach of the United States men’s national team until 2030.

Our source got this information on Tuesday from a release on the FIFA website, noting that US Soccer announced it on Monday.

Pochettino’s previous deal ended after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he led the United States to the Round of 16 in the tournament they co-hosted.

While announcing the extension, U.S. Soccer Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General JT Batson said the new deal shows the federation’s long-term goals.

Batson said, “Mauricio and his staff believe in the future of soccer in the United States and our new project allows us to build on progress of the USMNT and the momentum of U.S. Soccer.

“We know we have a lot of work to do to achieve our clear ambitions, including competing to win Men’s World Cups and having soccer become the most played sport in every community.

“I couldn’t be more excited that Mauricio and team are committed to partnering with all of us to do the hard work to bring those ambitions to life.”

Pochettino led the Americans to several achievements at the 2026 World Cup. They scored a record four goals in a match during a 4-1 victory over Paraguay. They also had multiple group-stage wins for the first time since 1930 and a record six points in the group phase.

The United States’ campaign ended with a 4-1 loss to Belgium in the Round of 16. But many saw the team’s performances as a step forward under the former manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea.

The new contract means Pochettino will continue to work with young talents like Folarin Balogun, Alex Freeman, and Malik Tillman. He will also oversee the development of the next generation of American players.

Reacting to the extension, Pochettino said he and his coaching staff believe in the country's potential to improve its football program.

“Working together with U.S. Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the Men’s National Team program even stronger.

“The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here.

“We are excited by the opportunity to bring all our experience and knowledge to even more areas of U.S. Soccer while helping strengthen the pathways for players, coaches and teams across the Federation.

“We want to try to have a lasting impact on the sport in the country that has welcomed us so warmly and for that impact to extend beyond results on the field,” he stated.

Pochettino’s team will start preparing for the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign by competing in the 2026-27 Concacaf Nations League. This begins in September, before they focus on the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.
