Six people have been arrested by the Delta State Police for allegedly selling illegal drugs.
The suspects are Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; Osomuri Emmanuel, 31; and a 15-year-old girl whose name is not being released. They were caught by the Department of Operations while on routine patrol along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road in Agbor.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, was shared with journalists in Warri on Thursday. It said the police acted on reliable information to raid a store believed to be selling illegal drugs.
The statement mentioned that this operation followed a direct order from the Commissioner of Police, Samuel E. Erale.
"During the operation, police searched a vehicle connected to the suspects and found a large amount of Tramadol, Rohypnol, and other suspected illegal substances.
The suspects and the items found are in police custody, and investigations are still ongoing," the statement added.
In the meantime, Commissioner Erale warned that the police will keep working to find and shut down drug distribution networks in the state.
He stressed that "Delta State will not be allowed to become a safe place for illegal drug trade or any kind of criminal activity." He also pointed out that "the rise of illegal drugs leads to violent crime and other criminal acts."
Additionally, he ordered police operatives to boost their intelligence efforts and enforcement actions against drug dealers and their networks.
