The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and seized large amounts of hard drugs in different operations across the state.

The police shared this news in a statement on Friday, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to break drug trafficking networks in the state.

In one operation on June 3, 2026, police officers from the Special Enquiry Unit were on stop-and-search duty when they stopped a Mercedes truck with the registration number KRV 837 ZN at the First Niger Bridge Head, heading towards Asaba.

The truck was driven by 47-year-old Obinna Nwosu from Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State. He claimed he was transporting plumbing materials. But when police searched the truck, they found a large amount of controlled drugs hidden inside.

According to the police, "a meticulous search of the vehicle led to the recovery of thirteen thousand (13,000) sachets of 100mg Tramadol, one hundred (100) sachets of 225mg Tramadol, one hundred (100) sachets of Swinol, three hundred (300) sachets of Rohypnol, sixty (60) sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets, and one hundred (100) tablets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), popularly known as ‘Molly’.”

The suspect is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing to find other members of the trafficking group. The police added, "the suspect has been taken into custody and investigations aimed at identifying other persons connected to the illicit consignment are ongoing."

In another operation the same day, officers from the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS) raided a suspected drug distribution centre at Alegbo Community, Owa-Alero, in Ika North East Local Government Area, based on reliable intelligence.

Two suspects, Henry Edward and Okwudili Kingsley, were caught during this operation. Initial investigations indicated the suspects were running a local drug distribution network.

The police stated, "Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly operating a drug distribution network within the area."

From the suspects, police recovered five gallons of fermented cannabis mixture, commonly known as “Monkey Tail,” along with other suspected illegal substances. The police said, "the suspects and exhibits are in police custody while further investigations are ongoing."

Reacting to this, Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers for their professionalism and effectiveness during the operations. He said, "the command’s resolve to sustain aggressive operations against drug trafficking and other organised crimes" remains strong.

The Commissioner also warned that illegal drugs are a major cause of insecurity. He pointed out that "illicit drugs remain a major enabler of cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent offences," urging residents to support security agencies by providing timely information.

The police also called on the public to stay alert, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital in breaking down criminal networks.
