The Edo State Police have arrested two suspects and recovered two stolen vehicles in different operations.

On Thursday, Eno Ikoedem, the police spokesperson, shared details in a statement. The first vehicle was found during a stop-and-search operation on June 22 along Siluko Road in Benin City. The second vehicle was recovered while investigating the first case.

Police officers from the Textile Mill Road Division stopped a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus, ash in colour, with registration number GBZ 646 YK, Edo State. This happened during a routine checkpoint operation.

The statement explained, "On 22nd June, 2026, officers on routine stop-and-search duty at a checkpoint along Siluko Road, Benin City, intercepted a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus, ash in colour, with registration number GBZ 646 YK, Edo State. Preliminary checks on the vehicle revealed that the particulars presented by the driver were forged."

The investigation showed that the vehicle belongs to Dr. Timothy Etinosa. He had given the vehicle to Emmanuel Afolayan on a hire-purchase agreement. Emmanuel, however, ran away with the vehicle in 2024 and sold it after forging its documents.

The driver, Ezikiel Aguele, a 46-year-old man, was arrested. During questioning, he helped the police find Emmanuel Afolayan, the main suspect, and led them to recover another stolen vehicle.

Both suspects have confessed to the crime and will face court charges once investigations are complete.

In a related development, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, praised the officers for their vigilance and professionalism. He highlighted the value of stop-and-search operations in preventing crime and recovering stolen items.

The commissioner also encouraged the public to obey the law and work with the police by providing timely information to help fight crime in the state.
