The Borno State Police has found an unexploded hand grenade in a drainage slab in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri, the state capital.

The Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, shared this news in a statement on Saturday. He said the police got a report about the grenade around 12.40pm on August 15, 2026.

The statement, titled "Borno Police Command Recovers One UXO (Hand Grenade) in Maiduguri," said the explosive was taken by the EOD-CBRN Base 13 team in Maiduguri.

"Following the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, and after a report about a suspected explosive found on a drainage slab in Moduganari, operatives from EOD-CBRN Base 13 quickly went to the scene and safely retrieved the item," it read.

Daso mentioned that the recovered grenade has been secured for further checks. He added that investigations are ongoing to find out where it came from and how it got there.

"The Commissioner of Police praises the quick action of the public who alerted the Police. He also emphasizes the Command's promise to protect lives and property across the State," he said.

The PPRO advised the public to avoid touching or moving any suspicious explosive device.

"The Borno State Police Command is dedicated to keeping all residents safe. They encourage everyone to cooperate and report any suspicious objects or activities promptly," the statement concluded.
