Police link woman, two hotel staff to man's body found in Abuja

The Police in the Federal Capital Territory have connected a woman and two workers from a guest house in Gwarimpa to the case of a man’s body found under the Katampe Bridge in Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Ahmed Sanusi, shared this information on Saturday during a press briefing at the Command headquarters in Abuja.

Sanusi said the body was found along the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe on August 26. The man had been reported missing by his family earlier.

He noted that the initial reports in the media linked the discovery to kidnapping and “one chance” robbery.

“Beyond the media reports, however, there was a family grieving and struggling to understand what had happened to their loved one,” CP Sanusi stated.

Investigators confirmed that the deceased was the same person reported missing. They started looking into what happened leading to his death.

Sanusi mentioned that the deceased’s missing mobile phone was a key lead in the investigation.

“In the course of the investigation, we discovered that the deceased’s mobile phone was missing. This became a significant lead in the investigation, and our operatives commenced efforts to track the device and establish its last known location and usage,” he explained.

Even though the phone was turned off, investigators traced the deceased’s last known contact to Mrs Rukayat Muhammed from Garki Area 2.

Sanusi said further findings showed that Muhammed was allegedly having a romantic relationship with the deceased. She saved his number as “Safiyat” on her phone.

He added that the two had stayed at Good Samaritan Guest House on Second Avenue, Gwarimpa. Muhammed allegedly found out that the man was no longer breathing.

“Rather than immediately reporting the incident to the Police, the suspect took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the hotel,” the CP said.

Several hours later, after the hotel management could not reach the guests in the room, they entered the room and found the man’s body.

According to Sanusi, two hotel workers, Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly took the body from the room and drove it to the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe, where they dumped it under the bridge.

“Instead of reporting the discovery to the Police, two members of the hotel management identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus subsequently removed the body from the room and transported it to Kubwa expressway by Katampe under the bridge where they dumped it by the roadside,” he said.

The CP also pointed out that the investigation has not yet determined the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death.

“The exact cause and circumstances of the deceased’s death still under investigation. Other investigative processes are being pursued to determine the full facts of the case,” Sanusi said.

He warned that anyone involved in the death or in hiding and disposing of the body would face the law.

The Commissioner emphasized that the investigation shows the Command’s commitment to thoroughly understand the facts before concluding on cases involving bodies.
