Officers from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a man named Musa Idris. He is suspected of receiving and distributing stolen mobile phones. Police found 34 Android phones and two button phones linked to robbery activities in and out of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, shared this news with reporters at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo, on Wednesday.

Azare also talked about other successes of the command during this time. This includes steps taken to enforce vehicle registration rules and a crackdown on false security alerts.

He said the suspect was caught along the Calabar, Itu Road based on reliable information.

Investigations showed that Musa Idris had been arrested before, in October 2025. He faced charges related to armed robbery and had over 200 Android phones that were suspected to be stolen.

According to the Commissioner, the phones taken from Idris are believed to be from armed robbery operations carried out by criminals in and outside Akwa Ibom State.

"Operatives of the Command arrested Musa Idris, a suspected receiver and distributor of stolen mobile phones. This followed credible intelligence linked to a recent armed robbery along the Calabar, Itu Road," Azare explained.

He added, "Investigations showed the suspect had previously been arrested in October 2025 for offences related to armed robbery and possession of over 200 assorted Android phones that were suspected to be stolen."

Azare mentioned that the recovered phones are strongly suspected to be from armed robbery activities by criminals operating in and out of Akwa Ibom State.

The Commissioner also said that Idris made important confessions. These confessions suggest there is a bigger criminal network involved in moving and selling stolen phones outside Nigeria. Efforts are ongoing to catch other members of this group who are still free.
