The Osun State Police has arrested three men believed to be cultists and political thugs. They also recovered firearms, ammunition, charms, and other dangerous items during different operations in the state.
The police shared details about the arrests in a statement on Tuesday from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan.
The suspects are Adekola Olayinka Abdulazeez, who is 27 years old; Omolara Ezekiel, aged 28; and Babatunde Azeez, who is 32.
Items found with the suspects include three English Beretta pistols, one live round of ammunition, a cut-to-size gun, two live cartridges, four cutlasses, and three axes.
The statement said, "On the 22nd of May 2026 at about 10:00 AM, a police patrol team from Ikirun area command was on routine stop and search. They intercepted one Adeyinka Adekola, a 27-year-old man on an unregistered motorcycle. After searching him, police found two English Beretta pistols, one axe, and charms."
"The case was then passed to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and given to the Anti-Robbery section for detailed investigation. The detectives acted quickly and found that Adekola Olayinka, 27, confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity. He claimed he wanted to deliver the arms and ammunition to another member named Omolara Ezekiel before he was caught."
After further investigations, Omolara Ezekiel, 28, and Babatunde Azeez, 32, were also arrested. Police recovered one short cut-to-size gun, one Beretta pistol with a live round of ammunition from them. Searches of their homes led to more findings: four cutlasses, two axes, and two live cartridges. Investigations are ongoing to find other suspects.
CP Ibrahim Gotan has warned political thugs and anyone planning to disrupt the peace in the state. He promised to keep working with important partners to eliminate all criminal elements in Osun.
