Police nab two for stealing cows and stop abduction attempt in Ogun

The Ogun State Police has arrested two men linked to cattle theft. They also stopped a suspected kidnapping in different operations across the state.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement said officers from the Sagamu Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37. This happened after a report came in about seven cows stolen from a cattle yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu.

"The breakthrough followed a distress call received in the early hours of 25th July, 2026, reporting that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli Area of Sagamu and stolen seven cows.

"After getting the report, officers quickly mobilised and started patrols around the escape routes. Acting on reliable information, the officers stopped suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode Expressway.

"Their quick action stopped the criminals, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, along with the vehicle they abandoned while trying to escape," the statement said.

The police mentioned that investigations are still ongoing to catch other members of the group, recover the last cow, and prosecute everyone involved in the crime.

Separate Operation

In another operation, Babaseyi reported that officers from the Safer Highway Patrol Team on July 26 stopped a suspected kidnapping at Onigaari on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

"The officers were on a routine patrol when they heard gunshots in the area. Their quick response and presence forced the criminals to abandon their mission and run into the bush.

"They rescued the victim unharmed and took him to the Ogunmakin Police Post with his vehicle for safety and necessary police procedures. They restored normalcy quickly while efforts continue to catch the suspects who fled," the statement added.

CP Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, praised the professionalism and alertness of the officers in both operations.

He said the successes showed the command’s improved ability to respond quickly to distress calls and fight crime. Ojajuni assured residents that the police are in control of security in the state.

He also promised to keep improving intelligence gathering, policing visibility, strategic patrols, and coordinated operations. He urged the public to stay alert and help the police with timely and reliable information, assuring them that all actionable reports would be taken seriously.
