The Ondo State Police Command has saved a 61-year-old woman, Mrs. Modupe Oladele. She was kidnapped by armed men in Owo, Owo Local Government Area. This happened during a shootout that also led to the recovery of her stolen vehicle.

The police carried out the operation quickly. It was led by the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu.

A statement from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the victim was taken on June 23, 2026. Armed men invaded her home in Owo during the early hours.

Jimoh said the kidnappers stole her Toyota Matrix car with the registration number WWW-434-AG.

“At about 2:50 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer of B Division, Owo, got a distress call. Someone reported that armed men had broken into Mrs. Oladele’s home and took her at gunpoint.

“The attackers also took her Toyota Matrix, with registration number WWW-434-AG,” the statement said.

The Divisional Police Officer acted quickly. He mobilised operatives who started chasing the suspects.

“The police team caught up with the kidnappers near Ojana Phase 3, in the bush area. There was an exchange of gunfire.

“Overwhelmed by the strong response and firepower of the police, the operatives rescued the victim and got back the stolen vehicle.

“The suspects ran into the bush. Some may have been injured by gunfire during the shootout,” Jimoh said.

Jimoh noted that police found some items at the scene. These included two spent cartridges, a sandal believed to belong to one of the fleeing suspects, and a torchlight.

He added that police are working hard to catch the suspects who escaped. The case has been moved to the investigative unit for further work.

The Commissioner of Police praised the operatives for their bravery and quick action. He reassured residents that the police are committed to protecting lives and property in the state.

He also urged the public to stay alert and help the police with timely, credible information about suspicious people and activities. This will help in the fight against crime.
